Lucy Kenny

Lucy Kenny is a comic book, graffiti artist. Lucy Kenny is someone that my older sister knows personally.

Her main character that is shown in most of her work is based on her daughter, Bam (Amber) which makes her work personal to Lucy and also contains the memory of her daughter when she was younger.

Here is just a few of her designs. One (below) was done on a wall which adds an interesting texture to the painting. The others were made for a Project known as The Coffee Club Collective

Lucy's body of illustrates mainly uses pens, washes and hand printing.
This has been made on a wall that looks old and faded. There are holes and crackers which adds an interesting texture and look to the finish design.

This piece contains her daughter, Bam. It is colourful which could suggests her daughter's personality or how light hearted she is.
This piece was made for the Coffee club Collective. I found this piece interesting because you can see her pen marks and brush strokes. This piece shows a person which is a container and this one here is a container of fear.

Elizabeth Peyton

Elizabeth Peyton is an American painter who is a contemporary artist best known for portraits of famous people. Next to this and below are some examples of her work.

Her work is very expressive and this is shown through her interesting mark making but you can clearly see who the portraits are meant to represent. I think this mark making is very interesting and somewhat abstracted.

The Age of Innocence (2007) by Elizabeth Peyton (Click here)

After researching this body of work I have discovered that this work is heavily influenced by Romance. She has gained inspiration from historic figures, film, novels, music and poems. Her body of work is always personal to her and contains a collection of her personality and emotions at her point in time.

"The Age of Innocence, 2007, again combines the historic and the contemporary in its representation of Countess Olenska and Newland Archer, the illicit lovers in Edith Wharton’s novel, who bear a striking resemblance to the stars of Martin Scorsese’s 1993 film version – Michelle Pfeiffer and Daniel Day-Lewis." - (For quote click here)

2007 -Michelle Pfeiffer and
Daniel Day-Lewis.

Her collection of work shows a running theme of love. Each piece shows iconic moment for example the image below. This is an iconic scene in the movie "twilight".

This collection is oil on board and some are pencil drawing. Although I cannot find much on this body of work, I think her style is interesting as you can see every brush mark she has made or pencil mark.

Her work work links well with my theme because she work shows a collection of containers containing love.

Marlene Dumas

"Blindfolded" by Marlene Dumas (2001, Ink on Paper)
I've choose to look at this artist because this piece shows a collection of containers. The people are the containers of emotion, life, souls and so on.

They are quick simple sketches made with ink on paper. The colours are black, brown and white with could represent the emotion of the people at the time of this piece.
